Washtenaw County Road Commission (WCRC) is seeking students for an internship with the Construction & Design section of our Engineering department for the summer of 2023. An intern in this position will work under the direct supervision of a licensed professional engineer. The intern can expect to gain experience working in a transportation construction environment and will be exposed to a variety of construction management and inspection duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
An intern in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential duties: (These examples do not include all of the duties which the intern may be expected to perform.
- Assist in the support of construction staff and construction projects.
- Assist with project documentation and monitoring.
- Monitor contractor duties and operations.
- Work closely with management to ensure continuous communication, develop better work efficiency and oversee the constriction process for construction projects.
REQUIREMENTS
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Possess a valid Michigan Driver's License.
- Pursuing a degree in Engineering or Construction Management and be an active student returning or enrolling in the fall of 2023.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
- Ability to communicate effectively with employees, contractors, and the general public.
- Excellent attendance required dependable transportation and a good work ethic.
- Physical ability to work in extreme weather conditions and cope with temperature and other environmental extremes in a moving highway work zone.
- Solid understanding of computer software and hardware. Intermediate to advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office and computer-aided design (AutoCAD).
- Familiarity with construction materials and procedures, construction documents a plus.
The work schedule for this position will be Monday - Friday 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Overtime work and weekend work may be required.
